Big straw tumblers (30–42 oz)
These are the handle-and-straw cups you see everywhere. They’re built for all-day ice water and most have a tapered base that fits standard car cup holders. None of them are truly leakproof with the straw in, so treat them as desk and car cups, not bag cups.
| Model | Size | Best for | Watch out for | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState | 40 oz (many sizes) | All-day ice water, tons of colors, adjustable straw that stays put | Lid resists splashes but leaks if tipped over | Check price |
| Yeti Rambler Straw Mug | 42 oz (also 25, 35) | Rugged build, a little more capacity | Heavier when full; straw sits loosely in the lid | Check price |
| Owala 40 oz Tumbler | 40 oz | Owala fans who want a handle cup; the brand rates it for hot and cold drinks | Newer model with fewer long-term owner reports | Check price |

Coffee & travel mugs
For hot drinks, the lid matters more than anything. Slider lids are easy to sip from but splash. Locking and autoseal lids survive a bag but have more parts to clean.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zojirushi Stainless Travel Mug | 12–20 oz | Keeping coffee hot for hours; locking lid for bags | Narrow mouth; check the care instructions before using a dishwasher | Check price |

| Contigo West Loop Autoseal | 16–20 oz | Commuters who toss it in a bag; press-to-sip | Button mechanism needs regular cleaning | Check price |
| Stanley Classic Trigger-Action | 12–20 oz | Job sites and rough handling | Trigger lid has more nooks to scrub | Check price |
| Ember Mug 2 | 10–14 oz | Slow sippers at a desk who want an exact temperature | Needs its charging coaster; priciest option here | Check price |
Water bottles
Bottles win when it has to ride in a backpack or gym bag. The trade-off: most larger bottles are too wide for a standard car cup holder.

| Yeti Rambler Bottle with Chug Cap | 18–64 oz | Gym, job site, and anywhere it might get dropped | Heavy for its size | Check price |
Kids’ cups
For kids, look for a lid they can open themselves, a size that fits the lunchbox, and parts that survive the dishwasher.

FAQ
Which tumbler keeps ice the longest?
Any quality double-wall vacuum-insulated tumbler from the big brands will hold ice through a normal workday. The bigger differences come from the lid: an open straw lets in warm air, so a closed lid keeps ice noticeably longer.
Will a 40 oz tumbler fit my car’s cup holder?
Most 40 oz handle tumblers (Stanley, Yeti, and similar) have a tapered base designed to fit standard cup holders. Wide bottles like the larger Owala FreeSip sizes usually do not. A cup holder expander fixes that.
Are straw tumblers leakproof?
Generally no. Straw lids are splash-resistant. If it needs to ride in a bag, choose a bottle or mug with a locking lid, or buy a leakproof replacement lid.
Can I put my tumbler in the dishwasher?
It depends on the brand and even the finish. Many lids are top-rack safe while some cups are hand-wash only to protect the powder coat or special finishes. Always check the care instructions for your exact model.
